WISE Star
Wisconsin Integrated Services for Elders

Using the Wisconsin Star Method of Assessment

Family Service is proud to announce the addition of Specialized Older Adult Services and Caregiver Services staffed by Master’s level mental health therapists.  Therapists have backgrounds in the fields of clinical social work, counseling psychology, clinical psychology and community counseling psychology with over 50 years of combined experience in the human service field.

WISE Star offers the following services:

Individual/Couples/Family Therapy
Our psychotherapists are prepared to work with elders on problems such as mood disorders, medication management, family issues, social adjustment to age, and other relevant concerns that elders experience.

It can be difficult and stressful to care for an aging parent to be faced with the choice to put an aging parent into assisted living or a nursing home. WISE Star offers counseling for people who are dealing with these difficult issues.

Elder Mediation Services
When a family reaches an impasse or has conflicting ideas about the care of their loved one they may want to seek mediation services.  Negotiating the complexities of long term care planning can be a daunting task.  WISE Star offers specialized elder mediation services and conflict resolution.

Abuse Prevention Group for Caregivers (APGC)
This group is for caregivers who have frustration and anger issues related to caring for vulnerable adults such as elderly and disabled.  These vulnerable adults might be your parents, your spouse, or your client/patient.  Often when thrust into these care giving roles we are forced to revisit our own painful issues.  This group will teach safe and healthy ways to deal with stress, frustration, and anger.  Participants will be encouraged to employ empathy and other assertive skills.  Compassionate approaches for those working with people with dementia will be explored.

Specialized Services for LGBTQ Older Adults, Families and Friends
All of our Older Adult and Caregiver services as described above are available with a special sensitivity to the families and families of choice of the LGBTQ Community.
